Cosying Up After a Wet and Windy Day

20/2/2025

The weather has been absolutely rotten today. Cold, wet, and altogether miserable. I suppose this is what people call a false winter—though perhaps I just made that up. It did seem like things were starting to improve as we moved into the second half of February, but this week has taken a turn for the worse again. Typical.

Being Thursday, it was my usual food shopping day. After spending quite a bit last week, this week's shop wasn’t too bad since I didn’t need to stock up on household essentials. I spent £35 in Home Bargains, mainly on snacks for my daughter, and then another £40 in Sainsbury’s on my own food. I also picked up a new three-tier black trolley on wheels from Home Bargains for just £10. It has three shelves and is the perfect addition to my kitchen, giving me some extra storage space for fruit and, most importantly, my ever-growing supply of sweet potatoes.

Speaking of potatoes, I only learned last week that they shouldn’t be kept in the fridge. I’m still not quite sure how that piece of information escaped me all these years, but it does make sense—they’re never refrigerated in supermarkets, after all. Now, at least, my potatoes have a proper home.

Once I got back and put all the shopping away, I got straight into my home workout. Today was upper body-focused, and once I was done, I followed it up with my usual post-workout protein shake. After that, I had an orange and two different varieties of apple. I went shopping slightly later than usual today, so by the time all of that was done, it was already time to start prepping my evening meal.

Tonight’s dinner was sweet potato mash, rump steak, and carrots. I don’t have carrots too often, so they made a nice change from my usual go-to vegetables. It was a simple but satisfying meal, exactly what I needed after a busy day.

Now that I’ve written this, I’ll probably get into bed and continue watching A Discovery of Witches. It’s a show that has been on my watchlist for ages, but for one reason or another, I never got around to watching it—until a few days ago. I’m currently on episode four of season one. So far, it’s pretty good. Not quite gripping enough that I feel the urge to binge-watch it, but it’s entertaining, and it holds my attention when I watch an episode at a time. Since there are only three seasons, I think I’ll stick with it and see it through.

And that just about wraps up my Thursday.
