What I Eat in a Day | A High-Protein, Intuitive Approach

5/3/2025

I haven’t done a ‘what I eat in a day’ style blog post for a while, so I thought it might be fun to do that today. This particular day ended up being quite low in calories for me, even though I don’t strictly monitor my intake. I eat intuitively, so some days are much higher, and some are lower, but over the week as a whole, I remain in a slight calorie surplus to support muscle maintenance.

To start my day, I had a black coffee and a pint of iced water. I don’t tend to eat first thing, but I do always start my morning with hydration and caffeine. The first thing I ate today was 100g of frozen blueberries with natural Greek yoghurt. The combination of the creamy yoghurt with the cold, slightly tart blueberries was a refreshing way to start my eating window. This came to roughly 110 calories and 9g of protein.

For my first proper meal of the day, I made my own version of picadillo. I used mashed sweet potato mixed with 250g of 5% fat beef mince, seasoned with Cajun beef seasoning, and added a handful of grated cheese. Once mixed together, it’s like a spicy twist on a cottage pie. This meal provided around 590 calories and 65g of protein, making it a solid, filling option.

Later in the day, I had a snack—a Pepperami Fire Stick and an apple. This was a quick, easy option that gave me a bit of protein and some natural sweetness. The snack totalled roughly 175 calories and 9g of protein.

For my last meal of the day, I had a ribeye steak cooked in Kerrygold butter with half a plate of vegetables consisting of kale, spinach, and broccoli. Ribeye is one of my favourites, and cooking it in butter adds to the flavour and richness. This meal was around 700 calories and packed with 70g of protein, making it the most substantial of the day.

Altogether, this day came to roughly 1,575 calories and 153g of protein, which is on the lower side for me. I don’t track calories daily, but some days will naturally be lower while others are higher, and over the course of the week, I stay in a slight surplus to support my training and recovery.

And that was my Wednesday—simple, high in protein, and full of whole foods. Let me know if you enjoy these types of posts, and I might start doing them more regularly!
