Winding Down on a Wednesday

12/2/2025

Wednesday already. This week is absolutely flying by, and I’m not entirely sure where the time’s gone. It feels like just yesterday we were easing into Monday, and now here we are, midweek, with the weekend creeping up on us again.

Today, being Wednesday, started a little later than usual. My daughter doesn’t have college on Wednesdays, so there’s no need for the early morning rush. It’s nice, really, to have that slower start in the middle of the week—it breaks up the routine. I had a tidy around the house, nothing major but just enough to keep things feeling in order. It’s amazing how even a quick tidy can make the whole place feel fresher. After that, I put on two loads of washing—the never-ending cycle of laundry—and then treated myself to a quick bath.

My first meal of the day didn’t happen until 4pm. It’s funny how the day can get away from you like that. I had a rib-eye steak with broccoli, which was delicious, and then followed it up with some frozen mango and pineapple. I’ve really been enjoying frozen fruit lately—it’s such a refreshing way to end a meal, especially when you’re not in the mood for anything heavy. As I sit here writing this, it’s coming up to 8pm, and I doubt I’ll eat again today. I’m hoping to get into bed once I’ve finished this YouTube episode I’m watching.

But honestly, that’s fine. Our ancestors went hundreds of thousands of years with just one meal a day, and they managed perfectly well. As I’ve mentioned before, there’s so much emphasis these days on rigidly eating at set times—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—but I really think it’s more important to listen to your body. If you’re genuinely hungry, then eat. If you’re not, that’s okay too. There’s no need to force it just because the clock says it’s time.

Tomorrow is my weekly food shop day, and I usually grab a snack between shops, so I’ll probably be eating earlier than usual. I can already tell tomorrow’s going to be one of the more expensive shops. It’s half term next week, which means my daughter won’t be at college. That means I need to stock up on more food, snacks, and drinks to keep the house well-supplied. Plus, it’s one of those weeks where I need to top up on household essentials—bin bags, washing-up liquid, bleach for the kitchen and bathroom, washing tablets—you know the drill. It’s all those little things that add up quickly at the till. But I don’t mind; they’re essentials, after all, and it’s nice knowing the house is fully stocked.

I’ve got a non-journal style post scheduled for tomorrow, but since it’s shopping day, I’ll probably push that post back a day. It feels more natural to share a journal-style post on a day that’s already full of the usual routine.

As for tonight, I’m finishing up this YouTube episode, as I mentioned, and then I’ll head to bed to watch the last bit of Cassandra on Netflix. The show’s been okay to good so far—nothing groundbreaking, which is probably why I’ve been dipping in and out of it rather than binge-watching. I’ve just been taking it one episode at a time when the mood strikes.

Anyway, I hope everyone’s had a good week so far. Thanks for reading, and check back tomorrow for another journal-style post.
