Another Friday is upon us, and it’s been an early start to the day for me. I was up and out of bed at 6am, a time that, despite how much I’ve gotten used to it, always feels a bit rough. I walked over to the window, and I had a bit of a shock when I saw the view. The fog outside was so thick that I couldn’t even see the road from my house. On top of that, the temperature had dropped enough that I needed to put the heating on for a while to warm the place up. It’s definitely starting to feel like we’re heading into the colder months now.
One of the main reasons I’m up that early is because my daughter has college, and I like to get up with her to see her off, make sure she’s all set for the day. I felt a bit sorry for her this morning, though. Two buses didn’t turn up, which meant she ended up standing on the side of the road in the cold for about 45 minutes with no shelter. It’s a frustrating situation because when the first bus is late, it has a knock-on effect. She missed the second bus she needed to catch to college, so she had to wait for a later one, which made her late to class. The bus services around here aren’t the best at the minute, and they’re a pain if you rely on them, like my daughter does, or if you’re commuting to work. It’s never ideal turning up late to college or work because the transport lets you down. Luckily, a bus turned up eventually, and I told her to explain to her tutor that it wasn’t her fault. It’s the sort of thing that makes you appreciate the convenience of city life, and we’re looking forward to moving out of the village and back into the city soon. Buses should be more regular, and she’ll only need to catch one instead of two, which should save a lot of hassle. Once she’d left, I kicked off my morning routine with my usual black coffee and a pint of iced water. I don’t eat straight away when I wake up, as I prefer to fast for a few hours. My first meal is usually around midday. Today, that meal was scrambled egg on a bagel. I tend to keep my carb intake fairly low, especially in the morning, as carbs can cause an insulin spike, and I like to avoid that when I can. But when I was doing the food shop yesterday, I spotted bagels, and it’s been a while since I had them, so I thought I’d change things up. While I was out shopping yesterday, I picked up a few more gifts for my daughter’s birthday, which is coming up on the 23rd. I’ve been slowly getting everything together over the last few weeks. I also grabbed her a few treats as a little reward for getting through another week of college. It’s nice to have done the food shopping on Thursday and start Friday with everything sorted, making the day feel more relaxed from the get-go. After breakfast, I got a quick 30-minute workout in at home. Today’s session was focused on abs and core, which I try to fit in a few times a week. It’s nothing too intense, but enough to keep things ticking over. I find that doing a workout early in the day sets the tone and gives me a bit more energy for the rest of the day. Once that was done, I treated myself to a long, hot bath. Nothing better than warming up and relaxing in the bath when it’s cold outside. I also gave my beard a quick trim while I was at it, which was long overdue. Afterwards, I got into the new lounge set I bought last week. It’s nice to have something comfortable to wear around the house, especially when you’re planning on staying in for most of the day, as I am today. For the rest of the afternoon, I’m not planning to do much. I’ll probably watch some YouTube and maybe play a bit of Xbox if I feel like it. It’s nice to have these quiet days every now and again, where there’s no rush to get anything done. I’ll have my second meal of the day at some point, which will probably be two steaks and some green beans. I haven’t finalised the plan yet, but that’s what’s sounding good to me right now. After that, I’ll likely carry on relaxing and maybe catch up on a few things online. Tonight, I’ll probably have an early night. I’ve been enjoying winding down by watching YouTube in bed before drifting off. There’s something about those cold nights that makes you want to get cosy and settle in early. No big plans for the weekend either, but I’m guessing I’ll catch up with my dad at some point. If not, I’m happy staying in for the weekend, especially with the weather as it is. When it’s foggy and cold like this, there’s not much appeal in going out unless I absolutely have to. So that’s how the day’s shaping up. Nothing too hectic, just a steady Friday with the usual bits of routine and a few small annoyances here and there—mainly the bus situation. But overall, it’s a good start to the weekend, and I’m looking forward to taking it easy for the next couple of days. Comments are closed.
