The one food swap that changed everything for me was switching from white potatoes to sweet potatoes. It wasn’t a drastic or difficult change, but it made a noticeable difference in how I feel and how I approach my meals. About two months ago, I started incorporating sweet potatoes into my evening meals, and since then, they’ve become a staple. I still have white potatoes occasionally, but sweet potatoes have taken over as my go-to choice.
One of the biggest benefits I’ve noticed is how much more satisfying and balanced my meals feel. Sweet potatoes provide a steady source of energy without the heavy, sluggish feeling that sometimes comes with white potatoes. They have a natural sweetness that pairs well with so many different flavours, and they work in a variety of meals, whether roasted, mashed, or baked. I’ve found that they complement lean proteins and vegetables really well, making it easier to put together a meal that feels both nutritious and enjoyable. Another reason I’ve stuck with sweet potatoes is their nutritional profile. They’re packed with fibre, vitamins, and antioxidants, which help with digestion and overall health. The higher fibre content means they keep me fuller for longer, which has naturally helped with portion control and avoiding unnecessary snacking. They also contain more vitamin A than white potatoes, which is great for skin, immune function, and overall well-being. What started as a small change has now become second nature. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything by having sweet potatoes more often than white potatoes, and I genuinely enjoy them as part of my meals. It’s a simple swap, but one that has made a real difference in how I eat and how I feel. Yesterday was the first biker night of the year at my local pub, so my dad and I headed there for a couple of hours. The nicer weather finally seems to have arrived, though I’m not sure how long it will last. It was good to get out for a bit, enjoy the atmosphere, and see all the bikes lined up again after the winter months.
Today, being Thursday, was my usual shopping day. It was a bit of a swings-and-roundabouts situation when it came to spending. I normally spend between £50 and £75 in Home Bargains but only spent £30 today. However, in Sainsbury’s, where I usually spend around £35, I ended up spending £75. So overall, it balanced out to about the same as most weeks. One unexpected bonus today was that my mom gave me a slow cooker she’s had boxed up for a few years but never used. I’ve never cooked with a slow cooker before, but I’ve always loved beef stew—it was one of my favourite meals as a kid. So, I picked up everything I needed to make one: sweet potato, white potato, parsnips, Chantenay carrots, a red onion, two stock pots, and some diced beef that I browned before adding to the slow cooker. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but I had a good feeling about it. While I was out shopping, I also picked up a bouquet of flowers for my mom since it's Mother's Day on Sunday. I also grabbed a card and some Robux for my youngest brother—he’s turning 16 in a week or so, and since he’s into gaming, I figured it would be a gift he’d actually use. It’s hard to believe he’s already 16; time really does fly. Once I’d unpacked my shopping, I had my creatine and protein shake before getting into my Thursday workout. Today’s session consisted of sit-ups, squats, deadlifts, and leg extensions. My new wired headphones arrived just in time, so I used them during my workout. I usually listen to music with my Bluetooth headphones, but the sound quality has never been great. Wired headphones just seem to deliver a better, fuller sound, so I’m happy with them. This evening, I finally got to try my stew—and it turned out amazing. That will be my lunch as well for the next few days, judging by how much I made. It’s definitely something I’ll be making again. Tonight, I’m planning on watching Mufasa, which has just come out on Disney+. A good way to end a productive day. |
