It’s officially December, and the Christmas season is well underway. Last night was a quiet one for me. I stuck to my plan and had pork chops with sweet potato for dinner, followed by an early night – even earlier than usual. The chill in the air makes it all the more inviting to get into bed early, settle in comfortably, and watch some TV before falling asleep to my audiobook.
Unfortunately, my night’s sleep wasn’t the best. Sleep has always been a bit elusive for me, and over the years, I’ve had to make peace with it. Since around 2021, I’ve experienced what I believe would be classified as night terrors. These episodes vary from being jolted awake just as I’m drifting off to hearing voices calling my name, or even seeing phantom figures standing over me. While it sounds unnerving, it’s become something I’ve learnt to live with. For the past month or so, my sleep had been surprisingly good, but last night was an exception. When I woke up super early this morning, feeling like I hadn’t really slept, I decided there was no point in staying in bed. Winter mornings here in the UK are dark and slow to brighten, so it was still pitch black when I got up. The first proper light didn’t make an appearance until nearly 8am. I had my first meal earlier than usual today, as I needed to prepare Sunday lunch for my dad and me. Cooking a roast is always a bit of an event, with all the prep involved, but I wanted everything ready by 2pm as planned. I’m quite proud of how it turned out; it was probably one of the best roast dinners I’ve ever cooked. The lamb was a bit of a letdown, being on the fatty side, but it was still tasty overall, and my dad seemed to enjoy it, which is what matters most. Given the generous portion size of lunch, I didn’t bother with an evening meal. Instead, I snacked on some fruit as I sat down to write this post. The rest of the day was spent relaxing – a bit of Medieval Dynasty on the Xbox, some downtime, and working on tomorrow’s blog post. Being Sunday, I didn’t have any workouts planned today, which made it a good opportunity to fully unwind. Now, even though it’s only just gone 8pm, I’m already ready for bed. I don’t feel tired enough to sleep yet, so I’ll watch a bit more of Temple on Netflix before switching to my audiobook. Hopefully, tonight’s sleep will be better than last night’s. I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend and a restful Sunday. Don’t forget to check out my latest blog post tomorrow. Comments are closed.
