Yesterday, Friday, was a bit of a change from my usual routine. My dad hasn’t returned to work yet after the Christmas period, so he asked if I fancied a shopping trip to pick out a few things for my birthday at the end of the month. Naturally, I said yes — who doesn’t love a bit of birthday shopping?
I didn’t go overboard with purchases, but I picked up a new pair of jeans, a sweatshirt, and something a bit unexpected… a colouring book. Yes, a colouring book at 38! But before you judge, it’s an adult colouring book — designed to be relaxing and therapeutic. My mom got me a set of expensive felt-tip pens for Christmas that I haven’t had a chance to use yet, so the colouring book seemed like the perfect excuse to crack them open. Honestly, there’s something quite satisfying about getting lost in colouring, no matter your age. After our shopping trip, we stopped off for a quick meal. We both went for steak and ale pie — proper hearty food for a chilly January day. Once I got home, I managed to squeeze in a quick home workout before my daughter arrived home from her own shopping trip. Today has been a different story — a proper lazy Saturday. I’ve spent most of the day playing Football Manager, only stopping briefly to make soft-boiled eggs and toast for breakfast and then cowboy pie for my evening meal. The last few days I haven’t strictly stuck to my 90/10 whole food diet, but I’m not beating myself up about it. I was disciplined throughout the Christmas period, so a few off-plan meals here and there won’t hurt. Balance is key, after all. I woke up this morning with an aching back, so I decided to take a rest day from my workout. It’s important to listen to your body, and today mine was definitely telling me to take it easy. Rest days are just as crucial as workout days when it comes to overall well-being. Tonight, I’m planning a quiet evening in front of Netflix. There are a few things I’ve been meaning to watch, and it seems like the perfect night to catch up. After that, I’ll head to bed with my new audiobook — Pandemic: The Beginning by Christine Kersey. It’s the start of a post-apocalyptic series that I’m excited to dive into. I hope everyone’s had a great Saturday. Whatever you’re up to, take time to unwind and enjoy the weekend.
