It's the 1st of September, and the subtle signs of autumn are starting to creep in. Last week, we had a few warmish days here in the UK, but now it’s beginning to feel like summer has truly waved goodbye. The darker nights are drawing in, and the evenings are getting a little cooler. It’s that in-between time of year when it’s not quite cold enough for winter clothes, yet not warm enough to cling to summer. Despite this, I’ve stubbornly stuck to wearing shorts for the last 4 or 5 months—though I’m beginning to feel that may soon have to change.
The shops seem a bit confused about the season too. It’s a mishmash of summer holiday gear still on the shelves, alongside Halloween decorations and even the first hints of Christmas stock. It’s as if they’re not quite sure what season to prepare us for, and to be honest, neither am I. One of my hopes for this year was to use my bike more, especially for some canal rides I’d planned when I bought it earlier in the year. Unfortunately, the weather hasn’t really cooperated, and neither has my schedule. There’s always next year, I suppose, but it’s a bit disappointing not to have taken full advantage of it. Speaking of looking ahead, Christmas is just around the corner, and once again, I’m at a loss for what to get anyone. It seems to creep up on me every year, and yet I’m never quite prepared. Given how things are going, it doesn’t look like my daughter and I will be moving house before Christmas, but I’m okay with that. I’d rather get through the holiday season first, then tackle the big move afterwards. My daughter has already put in her request for when we do move—she’s hoping we can get a cat, so that’s something to consider for the new year. In preparation for all the upcoming changes, I purchased a 2025 diary/planner last week. There’s something incredibly satisfying about being organised even if it is something I struggle with, especially when my mind is often all over the place. Physically writing down important dates and plans helps me keep everything in order, and I’m looking forward to filling up the pages with next year’s events. One event I’m particularly excited about this month is a ghost tour around a local city, which I’m going to with my dad and sister. The tickets were under £10 each, which seems like a good deal for a 90-minute tour. I’m really looking forward to hearing some of the history behind the city I grew up in. It’ll be a nice blend of nostalgia and a bit of spooky fun to kick off the autumn season. In other news, I’m thrilled that we finally have a date for Yellowstone Series 6, Part 2. It’s due to air in November here in the UK on Paramount+, and I can’t wait to dive back into that world. Meanwhile, I’ve been catching up on Dexter. Even though it’s been out for years and is a bit dated now, I’d never watched the whole series before, so I’ve been enjoying getting through that. As September rolls in, I’m trying to embrace the change of seasons, even if it means saying goodbye to the long, lazy days of summer. Here’s to the cosy evenings ahead, the excitement of autumn, and hopefully a few more warm days before we fully transition into the colder months. Comments are closed.
