As a non-Christian, I find it hypocritical to celebrate Easter. This holiday has become a commercialized event that serves as nothing more than a marketing ploy to encourage people to spend money.
Easter, at its core, is a religious holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a time of reflection and repentance for Christians who believe that Jesus died on the cross for their sins and was resurrected on the third day. However, for non-Christians, it seems disingenuous to celebrate a holiday that holds such a significant religious meaning. Instead, Easter has become a consumerist event that encourages people to buy Easter eggs, chocolate rabbits, and other products that have nothing to do with the religious significance of the holiday. Companies use the holiday as an opportunity to increase sales and profit, which detracts from the spiritual meaning behind the holiday. Moreover, many people who celebrate Easter do not even understand its religious significance. They participate in the commercial aspects of the holiday, but they fail to grasp the importance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It seems hypocritical to celebrate a holiday that is meant to honour a religious event without acknowledging the beliefs behind it. In addition, the commercialization of Easter has led to a disconnect between the religious and secular aspects of the holiday. Many people now associate Easter with chocolate eggs and rabbits, rather than with the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This trivialization of the holiday only serves to cheapen its true meaning.
